The Good Goggle Guarantee

The Right Goggles Make All The Difference

Finding goggles that truly fit can feel like a gamble. They look great on the shelf, but what about 10 lengths in? Pressure headaches? Foggy lenses? Water leaking in every time you push off the wall? Sound familiar?
We've been helping swimmers find the right gear since 1976, and we know that goggles are the most personal piece of equipment you'll buy. What works perfectly for one swimmer can be hopeless for another.
That's why we created the Good Goggle Guarantee.

How It Works

Buy. Swim. Decide.
Purchase any goggles over £25 and take them for a proper test — not just a quick try-on in front of the bathroom mirror, but real swimming in real water.
You have 28 days to put them through their paces. Train in them. Race in them. Wear them for a full session. If they're not right for you, return them for store credit — no awkward questions, no fine print.
Because we'd rather you find the perfect pair than settle for goggles that end up forgotten at the bottom of your swim bag.

What to Test During Your 28 Days

The pool is the only place you'll truly know if your goggles work for you. Here's what to pay attention to:

The Seal

A good seal keeps water out without leaving you with panda eyes after every session.

  • Push Test: Press the goggles gently against your eye sockets without the strap. They should create light suction and stay in place for a few seconds.
  • Movement Test: Do they hold their seal when you look up, down, and side to side? Water shouldn't creep in when you turn your head to breathe.
  • Dive Test: Push off the wall hard. Do a racing dive if you can. Goggles that shift or let water in during starts won't serve you in competition.

Comfort Over Time

Five minutes in the changing room tells you nothing. An hour of training tells you everything.

  • Pressure Points: Any digging around the eye socket or bridge of the nose? This only gets worse the longer you wear them.
  • Strap Tension: You shouldn't need to crank the strap tight to get a seal. If you do, the goggles don't fit your face shape.
  • Post-swim Marks: Some redness is normal; deep, lasting indentations mean the gasket is too firm or too small for you.

Fit Around the Eyes

Goggle sockets come in different shapes , round, oval, contoured. Your eye sockets do too.

  • Edge Contact: The gasket should sit on the bone around your eye, not on soft tissue.
  • Eyelash Clearance: Your lashes shouldn't brush the lens. If they do, the goggles sit too close and will fog constantly.
  • Peripheral Vision: Can you see the clock? Your lane mates? Different lens shapes offer different fields of view.

Long Training Sessions

Some goggles feel fine for a quick 20 minutes but become unbearable during a proper session.

  • 60+ Minute Test: Wear them for your longest weekly session. Fatigue can change how equipment feels.
  • Fog Resistance: Anti-fog coatings vary. Some last the whole session; others give up after 15 minutes.
  • Adjustment Frequency: If you're constantly fiddling with them mid-set, something's not right.

Competition Conditions

Racing goggles need to handle pressure, literally.

  • Dive Starts: Do they stay put when you hit the water at speed?
  • Tumble Turns: Fast flip turns create pressure changes. The seal should hold.
  • Backstroke Starts: If you swim backstroke, test that underwater pullout. Some goggles leak when you're face-up.

Lens Type

The right lens depends on where and when you swim.

  • Clear Lenses: Best for indoor pools and low-light conditions. Maximum visibility without tint.
  • Tinted Lenses: Reduce brightness in well-lit pools. Useful for outdoor swimming on overcast days.
  • Mirrored Lenses: Essential for outdoor swimming in bright sunlight. Reduce glare and make it easier to sight. Can be too dark for indoor pools.
  • Photochromic Lenses: Adapt to light conditions automatically. Great if you swim both indoors and outdoors, or in changing conditions.

Ask yourself:

  • Do I mostly swim indoors or outdoors?
  • Does the glare from pool lighting bother me?
  • Do I need to see the clock clearly from across the pool?

Signs Your Goggles Actually Fit

You've found the right pair when:

✓ They seal without excessive strap tightness

✓ No water leaks in during dives, turns, or normal swimming

✓ You forget you're wearing them mid-session

✓ No headaches or pressure pain, even after an hour

✓ Minimal marks on your face after swimming

✓ The lenses don't fog within the first 10 minutes

✓ You can see clearly without your eyelashes touching the lens

✓ They stay in place when you push off the wall

Common Goggle Fitting Problems (And What They Mean)

Leaking at the Nose: The nose bridge is too wide or too narrow for your face. Try goggles with adjustable nose bridges or a different bridge size.

Leaking at the Outer Edges: The socket shape doesn't match your face. Try a different gasket profile, some are rounder, some more elongated.

Pressure Headaches: The goggles are too small, or you're over-tightening the strap to compensate for poor fit. Try a larger size or different brand.

Constant Fogging: Your eyelashes may be touching the lens, or the anti-fog coating may not suit your needs. Make sure there's clearance, and consider goggles with stronger anti-fog treatment.

Red Marks that Last Hours: The gasket is too firm for your skin or the size is wrong. Look for goggles with softer silicone gaskets or a larger socket size.

Shifting During Dives: The profile may be too high and catching water. Low-profile racing goggles sit closer to the face and resist displacement.
